Kids in the Hall is a sketch comedy series of Canadian origin. The brainchild of SNL creator Lorne Michaels (who is worth a hefty sum), the series introduced fans to a ragtag bunch of hilarious comedic actors with potential for stardom. The show was a hit on both Canadian and American TV, debuting on CBC and HBO respectively, and even spawned a feature film, Brain Candy, in 1996.
Much like SNL, the show was responsible for creating stars; with each Kids in the Hall cast members varying in the financial department. With that being said, which of the Canadian funnymen have the most green in their pockets? The most cash stuffed under their mattress? The most… you get the idea. Let’s take a peek at the contents of the piggy banks of the cast, shall we?
8 The Original Series Had A 7-Year-Run
Kids in the Hall’s brand of wacky sketch comedy debuted in 1989. Featuring Dave Foley, Bruce McCulloch, Mark McKinney, Kevin McDonald, and Scott Thompson, the series was unique for its time, particularly in North America, incorporating drag (such as McCulloch’s Chicken Lady) as well as homosexuality (Buddy Cole, anyone?) within the sketches. The show also featured a few upcoming stars, most notably future Scream and Party of Five star Neve Campbell. The series lasted for an impressive 5 seasons before ending its original run in 1995. The show was also notable for utilizing the Canadian band Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet’s "Having an Average Weekend" as the theme song for the show.
7 Kids In The Hall Are Back With A Brand New Season
When fans of the show first heard the news that the Kids in the Hall were coming back, the news was met with much fan adulation. Season 6 of the hit show made its way to streaming giant Amazon Prime Video in May 2022. The revived season differed from the original show, lacking a studio audience. The show was praised by critics and fans, scoring a 100 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. So, how did the Kids in the Hall cast reunite for the reboot?
6 Bruce McCulloch, $800 Thousand To $1 Million
Before Bruce McCulloch became a cast member of Kids and managed to generate a net worth of $800k-$1 million, he was just an aspiring comedic actor from Edmonton. Not content with simply being a comedic actor, McCulloch has also produced music, such as his 1995 album Shame-Based Man and 2002’s Drunk Baby Project. McCulloch has also spent some time behind the camera, directing music videos for Canadian artists The Tragically Hip (which lost their frontman Gord Downie in 2017) and The Odds. Bruce can also add an author credit to his resume, as the actor published a memoir entitled: Let's Start A Riot: How A Young Drunk Punk Became A Hollywood Dad in 2014. McCulloch has also been featured in several feature films, such as Dick in 1999.
5 Paul Bellini, $2 Million
Appearing on the show as recurring character, Bellini (Guy in a towel), was also a writer on the show. Along with writing for Kids in the Hall, Bellini also earned his $2 million net worth working on other Canadian TV shows such as This Hour has 22 Minutes, Made in Canada, and he also helped fellow Kids star Scott Thompson co-write Buddy Babylon, The Autobiography of Buddy Cole, a satirical novel. Bellini also appeared in Brain Candy (the Kids in the Hall feature film) and the Kids in the Hall miniseries that aired on CBC in 2010 entitled: Kids in the Hall: Death Comes to Town.
4 Kevin McDonald, $2 Million
Kevin McDonald was born in Montreal in 1961. The Canadian actor made his way from the main cast of Kids in the Hall to being featured in several films and TV shows. McDonald’s net worth sits at a cool $2 million, with his instantly recognizable face and voice appearing (and being heard) in films and TV shows such as Arrested Development, That '70s Show, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, to name a few. McDonald even made an appearance on an episode of NewsRadio with fellow Kids in the Hall cast member Dave Foley.
3 Scott Thompson, $3 Million
Scott Thompson is possibly the most memorable member of the series’ cast, portraying some of the show’s most popular recurring characters, such as Buddy Cole. Born in North Bay, Ontario in 1959, Thompson has amassed a net worth of $3 million over the course of his career (Though some sites have the actor’s net worth as high as $31 million.) Thompson has appeared in several movies and TV shows, from the sci-fi classic Star Trek Voyager to the Vin Diesel comedy The Pacifier. Thompson had to battle stomach cancer as recently as 2009, but has managed to pull through and is currently cancer-free.
2 Mark McKinney, $5 Million
Mark McKinney, who was born in Ottawa, just happens to have a hefty $5 million resting nicely in his bank account. After McKinney’s run on the series, the actor was featured in such films as The Wrong Guy with fellow Kids in the Hall member Dave Foley, Spice World, and the animated children’s program Where’s Waldo based on the popular children’s book.
1 Dave Foley, $9 Million
