Ariana Grande is back on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The pop star attended the Met Gala for the first time since 2018 tonight, opting for a sweeping, white strapless gown by Loewe for her grand return. The dress included subtle but stunning details, like a shimmery mother-of-pearl constructed corset bodice and a matching back bow. Grande also experimented with her glam for the evening, opting for neutral makeup and dainty butterflies adorning the sides of her eyes. Her signature ponytail was, of course, present.
Grande’s Met Gala comeback is one of the artist’s highest-profile appearances since releasing her new album, Eternal Sunshine, earlier this spring. While she made a few press outings following the release—including some alongside her Wicked costar Cynthia Erivo at the 2024 Oscars—the star has stayed relatively mum since releasing her latest record and ahead of the first installment of Wicked coming to theaters in the fall. In the film adaptation of the Wizard of Oz–inspired Broadway musical, Grande plays Glinda and Erivo plays Elphaba, the future Wicked Witch of the West.

While Grande did enjoy a reunion with Erivo on the Met carpet, noticeably absent was the singer’s current boyfriend, actor and Wicked costar Ethan Slater. The two have yet to fully confirm their relationship or make an official appearance together, but it is rumored that much of Eternal Sunshine is about the dissolution of Grande’s marriage to ex-husband Dalton Gomez and the beginning of her new love with Slater.
“More than ever before in my life, I’ve been able to be so much more present and enjoy it,” Grande told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe earlier this year of her latest musical era. “And [I’m able to] savor it this time in a way that I don’t think I was able to before.”
